Joo, Slough Feg on hyvinkin tuttu ja nykyään ihan suosikkibändien joukossa! Oma suosikki kans ehdottomasti toi Traveller, mutta ei näillä huonoa levyä olekaan.

Nyt soi taas tää Wuthering Heightsin Within ja ujosta käppäilystä (jossain biiseissä esim. laulumelodiat tuntuu, että on laulettu päin helvettiä) huolimatta törkeen kova levy tämäkin. Lisää tälläistä.

Ne pari ensimmäistä (Within ja To Travel for Evermore) ovat tosiaan hiukan käppäisiä ja vaisuja, eikä vähiten soundien takia, mutta siitä huolimatta ja osin myös em. syiden luoman omintakeisen tunnelman ansiosta erinomaisia levyjä molemmat. Tulikin kuunneltua molemmat pari päivää sitten pidemmän tauon jälkeen ja kyllä maistui taas mainiolta. Varsinaisesti pankki räjäytettiin sitten kolmannella levyllä; soundit kuntoon ja mikin varteen Ruotsin Dio. Aivot sulivat ja korvat voihkivat mielihyvästä pitkin maailmaa. Mape muistaakseni arviossaan kehaisi Far From the Madding Crowd -levyllä kelttivaikutteiden naittamisen metallimusiikin kanssa olevan täydellisessä balanssissa, ja sitä se totta vieköön on.

Tämä saa kylmät väreet menemään pelkästään luettunakin. Oli kyllä pakko kuunnella saman tien koko Salt kun tämä metallilyriikan merkkipaalu osui silmiin.

"Nine" on kyllä edelleenkin pirun kova levy lukemattomien kuuntelukertojen jälkeenkin. Yksi ehdottomasti tämän vuoden parhaista tässä genressä, imo.

Thresholdin Wounded Landin definitiiviversion arviota täällä!

Psychedelicatessen seuraa kaiketi muutaman päivän päästä ja ensi kuussa tarjoillaan siten Extinct Instinct ja Clone.

Tuli tuossa pari viikkoa sitten hommattua Thresholdin uusin sekä Wounded Landin että Psychedelicatessenin uusintapainokset, ja bändi iskee nyt erittäin kovaa. Loputkin levyt menevät hankintaan tässä loppuvuoden aikana kunhan ilmestyvät, Subsurfacea lukuunottamatta kaikki ovatkin tuttuja, mutta hyllyyn eivät ole syystä tai toisesta vielä päätyneet. Bändi on kyllä säilyttänyt julkaisuissaan korkean laadu kautta aikain ihmeellisen hyvin.

Onko kukaan muuten tsekannut vielä Hidria Spacefolkin tuoretta Astronautica-levyä? Jos instrumentaalinen kingstonwallmainen progeilu kiinnostaa, siinäpä vuoden kovin täky. Vuoden top 5 -kamaa itselle jo tässä vaiheessa hyvin suurella todennäköisyydellä.

Ei saamari ole aiheenmukainen taaskaan mulle. Mie olen yrittänyt kolmessa eri pätkässä kuunnella Status Minorin uutta Ouroborosta, mutta ei vain jaksa. Menee neljänteen kertaan että viimeisen, 10-& puoliminuttisen Sail Awayn kestää vielä, huoh... Kuikastakin tulee vain Thaurorodin levy mieleen

Kun vuosia sitten Subsurfacen ostin en tuolloin käsittänyt sen saamaa arvostusta enkä taida käsittää sitä ikinä. Omiin korviin levy muuttuu hyvinkin tylsäksi heti loistavan avauskappaleen jälkeen. Mutta mikäs siinä jos muille maistuu ja eipä nyt tosiaan ole tullut kuunneltuakaan tätä vuosikausiin.

Hypothetical onkin sitten huomattavasti parempi, jos sitten pelkästään The Ravages of Timen ja Narcissuksen takia.

Jotenkin näissä vaan ne koukut tulee useamman kuuntelun kautta. Uusinkin oli itselle ensin "ihan hyvä mutta ei mitään mieleenpainuvaa" ja sitten alkoikin kerta kerralta aueta ihan uusia juttuja.

THRESHOLD Keyboardist Discusses Singer Change, 'March Of Progress' Album

On former vocalist Damian Wilson returning to THRESHOLD:

Richard: "We didn't want to cancel shows, because that's just not a good thing to do. Fans buy tickets, book flights, and book hotels. We did talk very briefly at the time about having vocalist auditions, but we didn't have very long. Over the years we've had three singers, which is ludicrous for any band. Your dream is that you have the same line-up for your whole career, so the fact that we've managed to still keep our fanbase is quite fortunate. The thought of having a fourth singer… We thought that would just be a bit of a joke really for a band. We might as well have just called ourselves a project or something, so we really thought that it had to be Damian or Glynn [Morgan, vocalist on 1994's 'Psychedelicatessen']. It was so obvious to go back to one of those two. Luckily, I had been working with Damian about a week before in the studio on another project, and he had spoken about THRESHOLD. He said to me, 'I really miss the band. If there's ever an opportunity, I'd love to have another shot'. A week later he got a phone call [laughs], and he came back in. He was the hero of the hour, and we did the shows. After that he then did a tour, and some more shows. With every show we did, he just became more and more part of the band. There was never a day where we said 'We don't have a singer again'. Slowly he made his way back in I think. To be honest it was down to timing though; Damian was here and he was ready, and he was available. We didn't actually have a way of getting hold of Glynn at the time, so it was a pretty easy decision. If it was another month it might've been Glynn who came back."

On late vocalist Andrew "Mac" McDermott, who passed away last year:

Richard: "He was a phenomenal singer, and in equal parts phenomenal and infuriating I would say. I think it's pretty well documented he had a pretty serious drinking habit, and you can imagine that that causes all sorts of difficulties and problems. Whether it was in the studio or onstage, you just never quite knew what you were gonna get. Some days he'd be quite brilliant, and then the next day he couldn't remember anything. Alcoholism is a terrible thing, and as far as I'm aware that's eventually what killed him."

Sattumoisin olen kartuttanut Threshold-kokoelmia viime aikoina sekä Dead Reckoningilla että March of Progressilla, jotka molemmat ovat ihan päteviä levyjä. Tiettävästi bändillä on nyt höyry päällä ja ovat lupailleet uutta levyä pihalle huomattavasti nopeammin kuin March of Progressia. Eipä haittaa.

Huonompia uutisia Symphony X riveistä:

World Management and Symphony X must unfortunately announce that last week, Jason Rullo was admitted to the hospital for heart failure. Jason spent a week in the hospital, and was released last week; he has started a rehab program, and has been told that his recovery will take a minimum of 3-6 months under doctors care. We are all hopeful that J will be back soon!

A note from Jason:

I would just like to say that I am happy to be home with my family after what was quite a week.
We had a few scary days in there but I made it through what was hopefully the worst of it.

Doctors say I have a very good chance for a full recovery so I plan to be back at 100% even if it takes awhile. I will go through cardiac rehab so I can be monitored while returning to form, so that Ill know when its safe for me to return to drumming the way I always have, if not better.

Uu~ Lupaavalta vaikuttaa. Olen tietoisesti vältellyt kuuntelemasta mitään ennakkoon levyltä. Muutamia hassuja kommentteja bändiltä lukenut. Tänään pitäisi CD+Paita pakettia odottaa kotona.

A few months ago, British progressive metallers THRESHOLD kicked off a fan video contest for the song 'Staring At The Sun', taken from their new highly acclaimed album 'March Of Progress'. In the end, the amazing effort by Achim Bieler from Germany saw him winning the competition. Check out the original clip here: http://bit.ly/RCSSEm

Since winning the competition, THRESHOLD and Achim conceived a plan to shoot additional footage in order to edit a new, even more impressive version of the video. For this, THRESHOLD’s vocalist Damian Wilson met Achim and his crew in South Germany to record the new footage.
